September 4, after 9 months ready to climb Mount Kenya
After climbing the Mount Elgon (4321mt) and cross the border Ugand-Kenya via the rain forest, we are ready to go up to the Mount Kenya!
Yes, in the rain forest it rains a lot... the first two days of trakking on mount Elgon we were blessed by sun and rain only late in the evening when we were already in our dry tent. But the day of the ascend, fog and rain walked with us up and down. However the worst was the border crossing. Five well armed kenyan rangers who looked as if they performed in a war movie took care of us escorting us to the camp. It rained all way long. Let me tell you that under heavy rain, with 15kgs on your shoulder and mud all over, trekking for about 20km is not so much fun. As the attendant at the Uganda Wildlife Authority told us, "if it rains, you would not enjoy the trek so much..."
What an experience! Including the ride on the 4WD military track, on the open back. Despite we risked to flip over few times (thanks to the tree which hold our track and prevent us from rolling down the hill), and a tractor pulled us out of the mud where we got stuck a couple of times, it was a great adventure, of which we are very very glad to be here to tell you about. I can't believe what that 4WD track could do on the stip and muddy road.
We went through the usual muddy road, which became a wild river for rafting during the equatorial storm, to stamp our passport in a border post whit no road.
Well, we survived all of this and reached Nairobi.
Now we are ready for the next climb. Mount Kenya, you'll be ours!
